Fayette County Farm Bureau Research Farm

Research Farm

Welcome to the Fayette County Farm Bureau Research Farm, a testament to decades of agricultural innovation and community stewardship. Established in 1937 as the "Brownstown Experimental Field," this 120-acre property was acquired through community contributions and entrusted to the University of Illinois for agricultural research.

In 2017, the farm returned to its roots under the ownership of the Fayette County Farm Bureau, honoring a covenant that the property would go back to Fayette County Farm Bureau if not used for research. Today, in collaboration with South Central FS, the Farm Bureau continues its mission of advancing agricultural knowledge through crop production and research initiatives.

Proceeds from crop sales sustain the farm's upkeep and support the Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation, which funds scholarships for local students pursuing agricultural education. In 2024, the Foundation proudly launched its internship program, further investing in the future of agriculture.

Throughout its history, the Farm Bureau Research Farm has pioneered practices that have shaped local and statewide farming techniques. From pioneering hybrid seeds to advancing soil conservation, the farm remains a cornerstone of agricultural progress, embodying the community's commitment to innovation and education in agriculture.
